Scrape Off Plates Before Loading Them
Solid food residue stuck on your plates will dislodge during the wash cycle and can clog up the drain hose or damage the filter and pump. Scrape off all dishes before loading them into the dishwasher to help it function properly.
Don’t Overload or Underload the Machine
It’s best to always wash a full load in your dishwasher, but do not overfill it. Washing full loads is energy-efficient and reduces wear and tear on the machine. Overfilling the dishwasher restricts the movement of the spraying mechanisms, resulting in unclean dishes. Load dishes so they are evenly spaced apart with enough room for water to get between them.
Take Care of Your Dishwasher by Clearing Out the Filter
At the base of the dishwasher, there is a filter that should be removed and cleaned. Clear out any debris stuck in the filter and rinse it under running water. If the filter is clogged, the machine will have trouble draining.
Only Wash Dishwasher-Safe Items
Some people try to wash things other than dishes in the dishwasher, but this is not a good idea. Only wash dishwasher-safe dishes in the dishwasher. Other items might have residue that damages the filter and the pump.
Clean the Door Seal to Take Care of Your Dishwasher
Food residue collects at the door seal between the door and the tub. It can start to develop odors and mold, so it’s important to keep it clean by wiping it with a rag and white vinegar once a month. Keep harsh chemicals like bleach away from the stainless door and tub.
Check the Spray Arms
Obstructions can form in the holes of the spray arms and affect the spray pattern. If you notice your dishes aren’t getting as clean as they should, check the spray arms and clear out the holes with a toothpick. It is easier to do this when you remove the arms altogether.
